What the program funds
The Department of War’s (DoW) REPI program supports the military mission by funding technical and implementation projects that inform effective and efficient military land management on or near DoW installations and ranges to preserve and enhance test, training, and operational capabilities. The projects funded through these programs enable mission-driven use of DoW working lands, protect strategic defense priorities, to facilitate the DoW mission, avoid regulatory restrictions of military lands, and improve military installation resilience. REPI funds projects in coordination with the Military Services, private organizations, and Federal, state, and local entities.

Examples of funded projects
Fiscal Year2025: • Through the REPI Program, the Navy worked with a land trust organization to protect 234 acres of agricultural lands adjacent to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam from development pressures. Since the closure on the property in 2024, DoW through its partners was able to limit building heights, convey the land to the State of Hawai‘i for agricultural production, and maintain undeveloped lands underneath an overflight area for operations from the nearby Wheeler Army Airfield, multiplying its value to DoW and the entire region. • In 2017, the Army began partnering with a conservation partner to preserve land surrounding White Sands Missile Range. In 2022, the partnership leveraged the REPI Program to acquire 315,709 acres of conservation easements - the largest acreage acquisition in REPI Program history. The easement protects critical airspace that, if developed or encroached upon, could compromise vital long-range weapons testing and training operations for F-22 and F-16 pilot training. • As part of the Hurricane Michael recovery and rebuild, Tyndall Air Force Base (AFB) has received REPI Program funding to support the establishment of three nature-based solutions, including submerged limestone breakwaters, limestone reefs, and limestone breakwaters that will attenuate wave energy near hurricane evacuation routes and other critical facilities.
