What the grant funds

The purpose of the NIDCR Dental Specialty and PhD Program (DSPP) is to develop outstanding dentist scientists through structured programs that provide advanced clinical training in an approved dental specialty, research career development activities, and supervised research training leading to a PhD in biomedical or behavioral science. The programs are expected to accelerate the process of early career dentist scientists achieving competencies in both clinical and research areas, and to facilitate their transition to independent and productive research careers dedicated to improving dental, oral, and craniofacial health. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) allows appointment of Scholars (K12) proposing to serve as the lead investigator of an independent clinical trial; or proposing a separate ancillary clinical trial; or proposing to gain research experience in a clinical trial led by another investigator, as part of their research and career development.
