What the grant funds

U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) National Geospatial Program (NGP) is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU Partner for research on “Geographic Names Spanish Translation for The National Map”. This research includes collaborative opportunities with CESU researchers to conduct research on GNIS feature name translation from English to Spanish. The collaborative research should use The National Map geospatial data sources including the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), National Boundaries Dataset (NBD), National Structures Dataset (NSD), and other sources used by The National Map to demonstrate dual-language translation processes and efficient dual-language map labeling techniques compatible with the Dynamic Mapping Product-on-Demand (PoD) environment and to evaluate cartographic dual-language label treatment options.
